Apple held its “Surprise and Shine” event on September 9 in California, which was early morning of September 10 here. If you were waiting for a regular iPhone 18, it wasn’t there. This year Apple only announced three phones: the iPhone 18 Pro, the iPhone 18 Pro Max, and its first foldable, the iPhone Duo.
The good news is we now have official Philippine prices and dates for all three. Here’s everything in one place.
When you can get one in the Philippines
The Pro models come first. Pre-orders open at midnight on October 2, and units land in stores two weeks later. The Duo follows on its own schedule.

You can order through Apple’s Philippine online store or at Apple resellers like Beyond the Box and Power Mac Center. If you want one on day one, I’d pre-order rather than walk in. The popular colors and storage sizes usually sell out first.

Yes, there’s a 2TB option now, and yes, a maxed-out iPhone Duo costs more than a lot of motorcycles.
If you have a trip abroad coming up, it’s worth knowing the US is cheaper. PhilSTAR Life converted the US prices: the iPhone 18 Pro is $1,199 there, or roughly ₱75,000, before sales tax. The gap is biggest on the Duo, which starts at $1,999 in the US, around ₱35,000 less than here. Just remember the conversion doesn’t include US sales tax, and warranty and after-sales support are easier if you buy locally.
iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max: what’s actually new
The big one is the camera. The 48MP main camera now has a variable aperture, from f/1.48 to f/4, using six physical blades like a regular camera lens. In plain terms, you can choose how much of the background stays blurry, and you get sharper group shots and landscapes when you stop it down. Apple also added manual controls for aperture, shutter speed and white balance for people who like to tinker.
The rest of the upgrades are smaller but still nice:
- A20 Pro chip, Apple’s first on a 2-nanometer process. Apple says graphics are up to 40% faster than last year’s A19 Pro.
- A smaller Dynamic Island that can show three Live Activities at once, like a Grab ride, a timer and your music.
- Battery: up to 34 hours of video playback on the Pro and 43 hours on the Pro Max, with 50% charge in about 15 minutes on a wired charger.
- Apple’s own C2 modem and N1 chip for cellular, Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6. Apple claims the modem uses 15% less power than the previous one.
- A bigger vapor chamber for cooling, so it should throttle less during long gaming sessions.
iPhone Duo: Apple finally folds
Samsung, Huawei and others have sold foldables for years, so the Duo isn’t a new idea. What’s interesting is how Apple did it. It opens like a small book, with a 7.6-inch screen inside and a 5.4-inch screen outside. Both screens have the same aspect ratio, so apps don’t need to rearrange themselves awkwardly when you open it.
A few things worth knowing before you get excited:
- No Face ID. It unlocks with Touch ID on the side button instead.
- Two cameras, not three: a 48MP main and a 48MP ultra wide. There’s no dedicated telephoto lens; zoom is a 2x crop from the main sensor.
- Battery life is split into two batteries, one in each half. Apple rates it at up to 24 hours of typical use.
- It’s titanium, rated IP68, and comes in two colors: star white and night sky.
- Accessories aren’t cheap either: the official case is ₱5,990 and the folio with kickstand is ₱9,790.
Should you buy one?
If you’re on an iPhone 15 Pro or older and you take a lot of photos, the 18 Pro is a real upgrade. The variable aperture is the first camera change in a while that you’ll actually notice. If you already have a 17 Pro, you can comfortably skip this one.
For the Duo, I’d wait. It’s a first-generation product from Apple, and first generations usually have rough edges. Let the early buyers find out how the crease and hinge hold up after a few months of daily use. The price is also hard to justify when the 18 Pro Max does most of the same things for ₱60,000 less.
And if you just want a new iPhone that isn’t ₱95,000, the regular iPhone 18 wasn’t part of this launch, so last year’s iPhone 17 is the one to look at for now.
